Ajax Cape Town coach Stanley Menzo believes his side need to play their own game to turn their season around after their seven-match winless run.
Prior to becoming the new head coach, the 53-year-old was the Urban Warriors’ head of youth since his arrival in April.
Menzo watched his side suffer a 2-0 defeat against SuperSport United at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday, and believes his lack of knowledge of the Absa Premiership could work in his favour but insists the main focus is on his squad.
‘That’s maybe the positive side of me not knowing the league and the opponent, so I don’t have to think too much about the opponent,’ Menzo told the Ajax Cape Town website.
‘I know a lot more from my team and my players, so I have to spend my energy on my team.’
The former Ajax Amsterdam goalkeeper said his side have to start working on playing their own style of football in order to turn their season around.
‘We have to try to think about ourselves first and try to play the game we want to play. Of course, we have an opponent, but the moment we play our own game, we’re stronger,’ he added.
Ajax Cape Town will next face Free State Stars in the Absa Premiership at Goble Park Stadium on Wednesday, kicking off at 18:00.
