Platinum Stars defender Siphiwe Mnguni says he is out to prove himself this season following his excellent start to his debut season in the Absa Premiership.

Mnguni, who was promoted to the first team at the beginning on this season, has been putting solid performances for Dikwena in recent matches.

Mnguni says that he did not expect to make his debut as early as he did this season in the Absa Premiership before admitting that he is ready to prove himself this season.

‘It shows that the coaches have faith in me so I have to repay them by doing well. They want to see me grow. I got a chance to play but I didn’t expect it to me so soon,’ Mnguni told the Platinum Stars website.

‘I was ready so I have to take the opportunity with both hands. There are a lot of things that I need to improve on but I will take them game by game.’

The former Dikwena youth product says that playing against Kaizer Chiefs and winning the man-of-the-match award will be motivation for the young defender to keep working hard this season.

‘For me to be man of the match against a big team like Chiefs is huge. I was playing in development last season so now to play against Chiefs and man of the match is special. This will serve as a motivation for me to keep working hard.

Mnguni says he and the youngsters, who were promoted by coach Cavin Johnson are out to make a mark for Dikwena this season.

‘For most of us as youngsters, there’s willingness to work hard and learn. Last season we were training with the first team. We are learning from experienced guys like Vuyo Mere, Henrico Botes, and Solly Mathe,’ Mnguni said.

Platinum Stars against Baroka kicks off at 19:30.
