Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teko Modise says their experience in the Fifa Club World Cup will serve as a learning curve following their 2-0 defeat against Kashima Antlers.
The Brazilians hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the global tournament were dealt a major blow after their defeat in the quarter-final on Sunday.
The 33-year-old believes his side’s experience in the tournament will go a long way and it will serve as a learning curve to the Brazilians
‘Look it was sad that we lost. We obviously did not want to come here and lose. We played against a good team that deserves to be here as much as we do. Luck was just not on our side with the game being of two halves,’ Modise told his Official website.
‘They got chances and they scored and that is football at the end of the day. But I believe that the experience will go a long way in giving the players and the technical stuff credit in their CV’s. Not only that but this may also show all South Africans that a lot is possible if we work hard and believe.
‘Can you imagine if this was something all the PSL teams constantly participate in year in and out? It would skyrocket the value of our league and quality of football in our country. This is a learning curve for all of us.’
Mamelodi Sundowns will now take on Korean side Jeonbuk Hyundai on Wednesday to contest for a fifth/sixth place finish.
Kick-off is at 09h30 SA time.
