Wydad Athletic Club coach Rulani Mokwena wants his side to assert their dominance on a domestic and continental front.

The 37-year-old parted ways with Mamelodi Sundowns to join the Moroccan giants and has already put his side to work after completing his first training session with the club.

Mokwena leaves the club after guiding them to their record-extending seventh successive league title and his fourth league title at the club.

He is relishing to chance to add to the club’s history by competing for the league title as well as the CAF Champions League title in the new season.

“I’m excited about being the head coach of a very big club, second ranked team on the African continent and for sure that is not by chance,” Mokwena said on Wydad’s official X page.

“We need to try and get more (CAF) Champions League titles and hopefully we can start working on that because for a club of our magnitude, three Champions League titles is not enough.

“We need to continue our dominance in the local and domestic competitions and that means working very, very hard on winning the league once again, 22 championships is an incredible feat and one that to work very, very hard to try to surpass and improve upon.

“The most important thing is to leave the jersey better than we found it.”
