Bidvest Wits midfielder Thabang Monare believes that it is only fair to hand the Absa Premiership title to Kaizer Chiefs should the league be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Football in South Africa, and indeed around the world, is currently suspended due to the fight against the virus.
When the decision to suspend the league was made, Chiefs were sitting four points clear at the top of the league standings with eight games to go.
The league race, however, was far from over heading into the final stretch as second-placed Sundowns still had a game in hand over the Soweto giants and a crunch fixture against Amakhosi as well.
Chiefs also still had to play Bidvest Wits twice in the run-in, but Clever Boys midfielder Monare feels it’s only fair to hand Chiefs the title if the league is cancelled because they are at the top of the log.
‘Look, if the league has to stop now, I think it’s only fair to crown the team that is on top of the league table,’ Morane told Phakaaathi.
‘I mean no one planned for this [coronavirus outbreak] and it’s like nature and things are the way they are at this time and there is no turning back or going forward, so they should be crowned. There is no other thing for us to do,’ he concluded.
