Mamelodi Sundowns wing Keagan Dolly does not have enough experience to ply his trade abroad, says coach Pitso Mosimane.
The Brazilians advanced to the MTN8 finals following their 1-0 victory over Chippa United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday through a 74th-minute goal by striker Anthony Laffor.
The former Bafana Bafana coach insisted that his side has the experience and the of playing in cup finals and he says that their only ambition was to reach the finals of the competition.
‘We’ve been underdogs the whole week, from the media, from everywhere,’ Mosimane said.
‘We are used to big games, semi-finals, finals. We’ve got experience playing these games. It’s not about showing off, it’s about getting to the final.’
Mosimane says that Dolly has not been performing well in his last two matches but he insists that the former Ajax Cape Town player is still young.
‘The ball was not falling for Keagan. He’s not been playing well over the last two games. Even in Zambia. But I’ve told him it happens. It’s part of football. He’s young,’ he added.
However, the 52-year-old believes Dolly is not ready to make the move abroad and says that he needs more time to develop as a player.
‘This is what he learns before everybody starts talking about Keagan going overseas. He’s not yet ready. He needs a little bit of time. Because he needs to be able to deal with this (slump in form) before he goes overseas.
‘Great player, but it’s a learning curve. He needs some time.’
Mamelodi Sundowns will now face Zesco United in the Caf Champions League second leg tie on Saturday.
The match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium kicks off at 19:00.
