Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane believes that Kaizer Chiefs deserve something for how hard they have fought for the title after not winning anything in the last five years, whereas his side’s season has been a success regardless of the outcome from the final game of the season.
The Glamour Boys will have the chance on Sunday to secure the league title, and their first trophy since 2015, if they Baroka FC in their last league match at Bidvest Stadium on Saturday.
Mosimane’s team and Chiefs sit level on points at the top of the log but Amakhosi have a better goal difference by +3 as well as more goals scored, 47 to 40.
With the league on the line on Saturday, Mosimane has looked to take pressure off his team by insisting that regardless of Saturday’s outcome, the season was a success for his team.
“You have to give also a chance to Chiefs,” said Mosimane during the post-match interviews after the 3-0 win over Polokwane City on Wednesday.
“They have not won nothing in the last six years or five years. They are a big team. They deserve something to be honest and they fought for it.
“Its okay, you can’t win everything. You can’t be ungrateful. You can’t get everything. Of course we are fighting for everything but if you make it to the semi-finals of MTN8, you win Telkom and you make it to the final of the Nedbank Cup tournament…
“And it’s like you make it to the final of the league now, really that shows you are a team of substance and credibility.”
