Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has hailed referee Victor Gomes’ performance in the Telkom Knockout quarter-final against SuperSport United on Saturday.
The Brazilians were knocked out of the tournament following their 3-1 defeat on penalties against a 10-man Matsatsantsa side at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday night.
Mosimane, however, had no complaints with Gomes, who infamously awarded five spot-kicks in a league match between The Brazilians and Ajax Cape Town in 2014.
The 52-year-old has heaped praise on the South African referee for his decision making in his side’s quarter-finals encounter, insisting that Gomes was ‘exceptionally’ throughout the match.
‘I want to congratulate Victor Gomes,’ Mosimane said after the match.
‘This was one of his best games. He did exceptionally. He had a brilliant game. He was top.
‘I told him, I said maturity and he has calmed down. He is no longer man of the matches. He is brilliant, he is very good and I congratulate him.’
Mamelodi Sundowns will now welcome Kaizer Chiefs to the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in what hopes to be an enticing Absa Premiership clash on November 19.
Kick-off has been scheduled for 15:30.
