Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane admits he is braced for a tough run-in to the title, saying that Orlando Pirates won’t simply hand them the prize.

The Brazilians bounced back from a 1-1 draw with fellow title-chasers Bidvest Wits by putting a dent in Cape Town City’s title charge with a 3-2 win on Wednesday, which sent Downs top of the league for the first time this season.

Mosimane has achieved unrivalled success since arriving at Chloorkop, winning the Caf Champions League in 2016, while also enjoying domestic success in the PSL, but he conceded to IOL that he is now targeting further success with Masadawana.

‘We’re trying to go to [league title] No 9 [from the PSL era],’ Mosimane said to IOL.

‘We want the other star (for winning 10 league titles). It’s not going to be easy. (Orlando) Pirates aren’t going to give us the title.

‘They’re scoring. They’re happy and rejuvenated. They won one game out of five and scored four in their last game. Wits have been strong. You can’t stay at the top for that long and you aren’t a good team. I am happy,’ he added.

‘Ever since I have been here in the last five years, it’s either we’re first or second. We’re back to where we have been in the last five years. That shows we’re a good team,’ Mosimane explained.

‘This is the first time we’re on top (this season). If we apply our experience of being there, because we have been here before, and normally when we’re here we don’t come down. I hope we continue with that trend. We will see,’ he concluded.
