Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung has congratulated Mamelodi Sundowns for their triumph in the CAF Champions League final against Zamalek on Sunday.
The Brazilians were crowned CAF Champions League champions after playing out to a 3-1 aggregate score against the White Knights in the two-legged finals.
The Amakhosi chairman has praised the whole team’s performance in the finals and reserved special praise for Sundowns owner Patrice Motsepe.
‘On behalf of the Amakhosi Family, I wish to congratulate Masandawana for winning the CAF Champions League,’ Motaung told the Kaizer Chiefs website.
‘The accolades must go to the entire team for their gallant performance. I will be amiss if I do not make a special mention of Mr Patrice Motsepe for the leadership and investment he is contributing to the development of soccer in South Africa.’
The Brazilians have now become the second South African side to win the continental title after Orlando Pirates in 1995. Motaung believes that Sundowns’ triumph in the finals will play a huge role in helping South Africa’s development in football.
‘South Africa can only benefit from this glory,’ he added. ‘I wish every South African a celebratory moment in appreciation of this development.
‘Well done, you deserve the glory and enjoy the moment!’
