Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala believes that his side needs to be deadly with their set pieces as their struggles in front of goal continues, writes DEAN WORKMAN.

The Amakhosi needed a late set piece goal to overcome Free State Stars 1-0 on Wednesday evening. Set piece goals are becoming a regular sight for Steve Komphela’s team after they beat Baroka courtesy of a rising Eric Mathoho met Tshabalala’s corner in last weekend’s Nedbank Cup quarter-final.

The Naturena-based side has struggled for goals in open play recently and their veteran midfielder believes that this means they need to be deadly from their set plays.

‘If the goals are not coming from open play, we have to resort to set plays. We need to make sure that when it comes to set plays we are deadly,’ said Tshabalala, during a media day building up to his sides encounter with Chippa United at the weekend.

‘We do create chances from open play and we don’t convert them, so we must be deadly on set plays. Whenever we get a set play we must make sure that we at least convert them.’

Kaizer Chiefs will take on Chippa United this Saturday in the Absa Premiership, with kickoff at 3pm.
