Orlando Pirates have expressed interest in signing goalkeeper Sherwyn Naicker following his release from Jomo Cosmos, according to reports.
Cosmos relegation to the NFD this term has seen the player let go by boss Jomo Sono, meaning the 25-year-old is free to join the Buccaneers.
‘Orlando Pirates are really serious about the boy, his agent had a meeting with Bucs representatives recently,’ a source told KickOff.
‘But the whole thing will depend on what’s going to happen to [Siyabonga] Mpontshane or [Felipe] Ovono. They want to release one of the two before bringing in Naicker.’
‘Yes, there are a couple of clubs that have contacted my agent about my services but I don’t know if Pirates is one of them.’ said Naicker.
‘Realistically I don’t think there’s a club that I can join and become a number one, and I won’t have a problem with becoming a second-choice goalkeeper,’ continued the player.
The goalkeeper would prefer a switch to a club from Gauteng, while admitting a move to a top eight club would interest him.
Pirates have also been linked with a move for Ronwen Williams of SuperSport United in recent weeks.
Naicker made 29 appearances for Cosmos last term.
