Mamelodi Sundowns veteran Surprise Moriri’s contract has run out at Chloorkop but the player could be poised to sign a new deal.
The 26-year-old has been a Brazilian for 12 successful years, winning four league titles, a couple of Nedbank Cups, and a single MTN8 Telkom and KnockOut apiece.
‘Surprise’s contract came to an end on June 30 but he is a legend at this club,’ Sundowns chief executive Sizwe Nzimande told KickOff. His contribution and commitment to this club has been phenomenal.
‘There are very few people that give of themselves so much to one single club. People that come to mind are the likes of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes of this world, the Surprise Moriris of this world, the Esrom Nyandoros of this world.’
Nzimande explained the terms of the new contract negotiation would not be made public,
‘We are in discussion with Surprise at the moment and trying to see what the way forward would be and as soon as we come to a conclusion with him we will definitely make that public,’ he said.
‘I would like to afford him the respect to discuss his career situation in confidence without having it splashed in the media and in private and once we have reached that conclusion we will definitely make an announcement.’
As of yet it remains unclear how Moriri feels about the extension. The veteran made just two appearances for the side last season, scoring once.
