Former Genk star Anele Ngcongca has become a target for both Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs after being released on Tuesday.

Sundowns are believed to be leading the race for the Bafana Bafana star as they have already contacted the player’s agent with a formal offer.

Chiefs will have to act fast if they hope to attract that player, as while the Amakhosi’s interest has been peaked, they have yet to launch an approach for the star.

Meanwhile, football manager at Chiefs Bobby Motaung, who had played down any further signings last week, appears to have reversed that decision.

Following a serious injury to established Chiefs centre back Erick Mathoho the side have admitted the likes of Teenage Hadebe on trial, meaning interest in Ngcongca could yet be rekindled.

‘He has few options. Chiefs are also in the picture but Sundowns remain hot favourites with Pitso Mosimane taking it upon himself to try and lure Ngcongca to Sundowns,’ a source told KickOff.

‘He is also considering a few options abroad and in the next few days Ngcongca will announce his next destination,’ the source added.

Ngcongca made 25 appearances for Genk last season.
