Orlando Pirates midfielder Musa Nyatama was awarded the Absa Premiership Player of the Month for March and has hailed a positional change as the reason behind his good form, writes DEAN WORKMAN.

Nyatama is in his first season at Piratesfollowing his arrival from Bloemfontein Celtic. He spent four years at Phunya Sele Sele after having failed to make an impact at Mamelodi Sundowns before then. Many question marks were raised when Pirates decided to sign the midfielder, but he has since gone on to prove all his doubters wrong.

Under coach Milutin Sredjovic the midfielder has blossomed, scoring three goals and making three assists so far this season. The thirty-year-old has appeared in all but one league matches this season and was named Man of the Match five times.

Nyatama was awarded for his good form by being named the Absa Premiership Player of the Month for March on Thursday.

Speaking at the awards press conference, Nyatama highlighted his change of position as one of the main reasons behind his good form.

‘At Sundowns I used to play as an eight, at Celtic they played me as a number ten and now, here at Orlando Pirates I’m playing as a number six.’

‘So far I have been enjoying my football here and the coaches have brought back that hunger for me and that love for football.’

‘I have been working very hard on and off the field to prove to the supporters and to you guys [the media] that I am one of the best players.’
