Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Felipe Ovono says he is delighted to be back in the Buccaneers senior team after being recalled from the reserve side.

The Buccaneers coach Muhsin Ertugral recalled Ovono to the first team after the goalkeeper was transfer-listed at the end of the 2015-16 season.

The 23-year-old marked his return to the senior team by saving two penalties in the Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup and ultimately going on to win the match 3-1 on penalties against Platinum Stars on Saturday.

Ovono insists he excited to be back and is looking forward to helping the Soweto giants do well this season.

‘I am very happy to be back with the team,’ Ovono told KickOff.com.

‘I am ready to train hard and try to help the club do well this season.’

The Equatorial Guinea shot-stopper believes there victory in the Maize Cup will give them confidence heading into their Absa Premiership opener against Golden Arrows at the Orlando Stadium on August 23.

‘I was happy to save those penalties. I trained with the team two days before the tournament. The coach told me that I will play the other 45 minutes,’ he added.

‘I am happy for the whole team and the win will give us confidence for the new season.’

Ovono now faces stiff competition at Pirates, he will go up against the like Brighton Mhlongo, Jackson Mabokgwane and Siyabonga Mpontshane for game-time at the Mayfair.
