Log leaders Orlando Pirates were held at home by Cape Town City while Ajax Cape Town were forced to settle for a point at home.There was little in the way of chances in the first half as Muhsin Ertugral’s side went in search of a second win in Cape Town.

Gift Motupa, a player rich in form over the last six months for both club and country, was forced off before 10 minutes had been played as Bernard Morrison was called on to replace him.

Former Ajax Cape Town midfielder Riyaad Norodien forced a sharp save from Shu-Aib Walter shortly before the interval but the Cape Town City keeper stood firm under pressure.

The match really took shape in the second 45 as the visitors pressed for the opening goal. Luvuyo Memela was introduced in the place of Issa Sarr as Pirates attempted to find some momentum.

In the 56th minute, Josea Moseamedi had the best chance but was denied in close range after Aubrey Ngoma’s initial shot was deflected.

Cape Town City pressed hard for the crucial goal as Lebogang Manyama tested Brighton Mhlongo in the 59th minute but the Pirates keeper was up to the task.

10 minutes later Ngoma threatened Mhlongo’s goal but was denied once again. Subsitute Matt Sim was denied two minutes later as Cape Town City surged forward.

After 79 minutes, the Golden Boot leader Tendai Ndoro had his side’s best chance but Walters was untroubled as the shot drifted wide of the City goals.

Mhlongo cemented his Man of the Match status with five minutes to go as he denied Manyama the winner from a well hit free kick as both sides settled for the draw.

In Cape Town, Ajax Cape Town were forced to settle for a draw after Nathan Paulse’s third minute strike was cancelled out by a penalty following Pietersen being sent off in the 60th minute for a foul on Tloane.

Thobani Mncwango scored from the spot as Polokwane City went in search of the winner against ten men but ultimately failed to take advantage of their extra man.
