Despite not playing a single game for the first team in the 2018-19 season because of a niggling injury, Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo will not consider retirement, according to his agent.

Khuzwayo signed for Pirates at the start of the last campaign on a free from rivals Kaizer Chiefs, but due to his injury he didn’t make a single appearance for the first team in competitive football. This has prompted reports in the media to suggest that the Buccaneers are looking to terminate the keeper’s contract.

His representative, Basia Michaels from Quality Talent Sports, told Goal.com that the club are yet to open any sort of negotiations with him regarding Khuzwayo.

‘I haven’t received a phone call [from Pirates] to that effect,’ Michaels told Goal.

Michaels also insisted that the player is not considering retirement after his gruelling first season at Pirates, where he made only a handful of appearances for the Multichoice Diski Challenge side.

‘No [he has not been advised]. Advised by who? No that isn’t true, never said to me,’ added the player’s agent.

The Sea Robbers are reportedly in the market for a goalkeeper, with Maritzburg United’s Richard Ofori at the top of the wish list, and with the likes of Wayne Sandilands, Siyabonga Mpontshane and Jackson Mabokgwane still at the club, it is clear that space will need to be made.
