Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane has reflected on his side’s exit from the Fifa Club World Cup following their 2-0 defeat by Palmeiras in the semi-finals on Tuesday evening.

The Red Devils made their way into the semi-finals of the tournament after they clinched a narrow 1-0 victory over the Mexican outfit CF Monterrey when Mohamed Hany’s goal proved the difference in the preliminary round.

Ahly’s dreams of reaching the final ended after Rapahel Veiga and Dudu at the Al Nahyan Stadium saw the Egyptian giants crash out of the tournament at the penultimate stage.

Mosimane has since shared his thoughts on the team’s performance, believing the outcome could have been different if it wasn’t for Ayman Ashraf’s sending-off.

“Tonight’s game was very difficult, especially in the last thirty minutes. We tried to come back in the score despite conceding two goals, but we were unlucky,” Mosimane told his club’s official website.

“We played a good game and we tried to add more attacking power in the second half.

“The team’s performance was affected by Ayman Ashraf being sent off. It happened in a crucial time of the game, as we were trying to ‏score and equalise the result.”
