Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane was not satisfied with their performance against Al Merrikh despite claiming a victory over the Sudan side in the Caf Champions League Group A clash.
The Red Eagles returned to winning ways in the Champions League after clinching a 3-1 win over Al Merrikh at the Al Ahly WE Al Salam Stadium.
The win moves Ahly back up to second place in the Group A standings with seven points after five games, six points behind log-leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have already qualified for the next round.
Mosimane shared his thoughts on the importance of the win while also praising his side’s fighting spirit.
“It was a very difficult game. A big game. We played it well spiritually and tactically. We needed a victory and we got it,” Mosimane told his club’s official website.
“However, I can’t say that I’m satisfied with the performance. We still have an important game coming up.
“We have to respect the club and the emblem. I know my team didn’t play very well. Winning today’s game is the most important thing.
“Finally, I’m happy we didn’t get any red cards. We respected Al Merrikh and we got what we needed out of the game.”
