Platinum Stars chairman Cliff Ramoroa has revealed that Dikwena is set to initiate a programme to develop quality strikers within the club’s system. 

Dikwena have not had the best starts to the 2016-17 season and are currently sitting ninth on the Absa Premiership table after winning one out of four matches.

However, Ramoroa revealed that the club has allocated a section in the club’s academy that will focus solemnly on players’ scoring abilities.

‘We are opening now a section, where we want to train strikers only. We have seen an opportunity of training strikers in our academy,’ Ramoroa told the Platinum Stars website.

‘We want to have a situation where we are going to have 15 to 20 youngsters that have been selected who can be strikers. While we are working on everybody else also we can produce strikers that we can put in our team or sell to other teams.’

Dikwena’s chairman believes this training initiative will go a long way to solving South African football struggles in the striking department.

‘We saw an opportunity in this country that we don’t have enough strikers. We score one goal, two goals and that’s it. We don’t have one player scoring four goals in one game. It doesn’t come often so we want to produce strikers at Platinum Stars Academy,’ he added.

Platinum Stars will now take on Bloemfontein Celtic in the Absa Premiership on Saturday.

The match at Royal Bafokeng Stadium kicks off at 15:30.
