The Premier Soccer League has commended the South African Police Service following the arrest of a man who was found in possession of fraudulent match tickets. 

A 41-year-old man from Snake Park in Doornkop was arrested at Orlando Stadium before the match between Orlando Pirates and Free State Stars.

The suspect was found in possession of 18 fraudulent match tickets, according to the PSL statement.

The unknown suspect will now appear at the Orlando Magistrate Court on Monday after being charged with fraud and contravening Safety at Sports and Recreational events Act of 2010.

The suspect has been detained at Orlando Police Station since he was arrested on Saturday.

PSL head of safety and security Phillip Masimong has commended the SAPS for their work in catching the fraudster but he believes that working with the SAPS will help the PSL put an end to the sale of fraudulent tickets at PSL matches.

‘We commend the work of the police who have been working very closely with us in curbing the illegal sale of tickets at our stadiums and the fraudulent activities by some individuals,’ Masimong said.

‘As the League, we are determined by put an end to this practice but in order for us to be successful, we obviously need the SAPS on board. Going forward, we intend to intensify our efforts to put an end to the sale of fraudulent tickets at PSL Matches.’
