Chippa United have appointed midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni as their captain for the 2016-17 season.
The 27-year-old’s appointment as captain should brush off talks of him leaving the Chilli Boys During the transfer window this season.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder expressed his excitement at taking on the leadership role at Chippa and Sangweni says he will be taking his role very seriously and ‘lead by example’.
‘It is an honour & an exciting responsibility that I have been given. I’d like to lead by example,’ Chippa United reported via Twitter.
Meanwhile, Nigerian defender James Okwuosa will serve as the Chilli Boys vice-captain.
Last season for Chippa, Sangweni featured in 20 appearances and scored once in all competitions.
Chippa United will start their 2016-17 campaign against Free State Stars at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on August 23.
Kick-off has been set for 19:30.
