Sangweni tipped for R3.5m move – reports

Orlando Pirates look poised to snap up Chippa United midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni, who could command a R3.5-million transfer fee.

The 27-year-old has reportedly attracted interest from the likes of Mpumalanga Black Aces as well as Kaizer Chiefs, but Pirates are said to be in driving seat for the midfielder, whose brother Siyabonga Sangweni is a former Bucs captain.

Now the elder Sangweni is said to be facilitating the move to Bucs for his younger brother, while the Chilli Boys are believed to be demanding a fee in the region of R3.5-million for their player, reports SoccerLaduma.

‘There is too much interest in Thamsanqa Sangweni. It’s no secret that Chiefs and Pirates are both interested in the player, but the stumbling block could be Chippa United’s transfer fee,’ a source said.

‘Chippa is said to have mentioned something in the region of R3.5-million. The player is left with one year on his contract with the club. The thing is that Chippa [Mpengesi] is reluctant to part ways with the player. He says the player is in the club’s plans,’ the source added.

Chippa may well be tempted to part ways with the player for less than the reported fee, given that with just a single year left on his contract, he could leave on free transfer in one year’s time.

Sangweni made 20 appearances in all compeitions this term, scoring once.
