Kaizer Chiefs take on Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium in a dramatic Soweto Derby clash on Saturday as the Premiership heavyweights battle for supremacy.
The Buccaneers have endured a frustrating run of results in recent weeks as their draw against Polokwane City condemned them to a third successive stalemate. Nevertheless, the side remains unbeaten in the Premiership this season and is still within touching distance of the summit of the table, four points off the pace being set by their Amakhosi rivals, who have played a game more.
Pirates will have to make do without fan favourite Thabo Qalinge for the tie as the midfielder is injured, while the side will be hoping Premiership golden boot leader Tendai Ndoro can maintain his prolific scoring form.
Chiefs, for their part, have bounced back in stunning fashion following a difficult start to the season and have now racked up four wins in succession.
The Glamour Boys will miss key midfielder George Maluleka for the derby clash owing to the star’s suspension, while wing George Lebese has been tipped to star following his recent return to form.
The Amakhosi have a superior record over their rivals having beaten them 24 times and lost 13 of their Premiership meetings. The Amakhosi may also hold the psychological edge over their opposition having comfortably beaten them in the 2016 Carling Black Label Champion Cup in pre-season.
The Buccaneers, however, bettered their rivals in their head-to-head clashes last season as they took four points out of a possible six.
