Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies are a step away from glory after a 5-4 penalty shootout win over Equatorial Guinea’s Malabo Kings booked their spot in the inaugural Caf Women’s Champions League final.

The Brazilian Ladies progressed to the semi-finals after they finished top of group B with seven points and having conceded not a single goal.

They, however, were struggling a bit up front heading into the crunch clashes as they had only scored two goals in the tournament so far, with 1-0 wins over Kenya’s Vihiga Queens and Rivers Angels from Nigeria in their opening two group matches and a goalless draw with Morocco’s ASFAR.

In a tight affair on Monday evening in Cairo, both teams struggled to find the back of the net with defensive stability strong on both sides.

Jerry Tshabalala’s team looked to up the tempo in the second half but the goal still would not come as the game went to penalties.

Bafana Ba’ Style then kept their nerve as they won the shootout and are now one game from emulating their men’s team, which won the Caf Champions League in 2016.

Andile Dlamini won the player-of-the-match award despite having saved not a single penalty.

The Sundowns Ladies will now do battle against Hassacas Ladies from Ghana, who defeated Morocco’s ASFAR 2-1 at Al Salam Stadium in the other semi-final match on Monday.

The final will be played in Cairo on Friday at 7pm SA time.
