Mamelodi Sundowns ran rampant with a 5-0 thrashing of Highlands Park at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in the Absa Premiership on Sunday.

The Brazilians broke the deadlock in the seventh minute, when Percy Tau beat his markers before firing the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box to make it 1-0.

The home side then doubled their lead six minutes later when Thapelo Morena set up Anthony Laffor, who slotted the ball into the far corner from 12 yards out to make it 2-0 to Sundowns.

Gordon Igesund was not impressed with the performance and replaced Seun Ledwaba with Brandon Theron in the 30th minute.

Sundowns then grabbed their third goal of the match in the 35th minute when Tau turned provider to set up Sibusiso Vilakazi, who calmly guided the ball into the bottom corner.

Two minutes later and the scoreline was 4-0 when Themba Zwane cut inside before curling his effort past Kapini and into the top corner from the edge of the box.

After half-time, Sundowns were dealt a major blow when Ricardo Nascimento picked up an injury and was replaced by Thabo Nthethe.

However, Sundowns continued to dominate and made it 5-0 in the 52nd minute when Rudi Isaacs deflected Tau’s cross into his own net.

The Lions of the North carved out a couple opportunities in the final 15 minutes, but Denis Onyango produced a few great saves to deny both Mbatha and Cale.

The Brazilians held on to their 5-0 scoreline until the final whistle, to walk away with all three points and move into eighth place on the Absa Premiership table.
