Mamelodi Sundowns sealed their progression to the quarter-finals of the Caf Champions League with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Lobi Stars on Saturday evening.
Sundowns came into the fixture knowing that a win would book their spot in the next round ahead their last match away against Wydad in Morocco
Pitso Mosimane’s men got the perfect start as Gaston Sirino played an inch perfect pass to Thapelo Morena who made no mistake in guiding his low strike past Olufemi Kayode.
Sundowns were well in control and both Morena and and Lebohang Maboe were denied by the woodwork and Kayode respectively as Downs threatened to blow away their opposition in the first half.
The Brazilians eventually got their second in the 38th minute when Themba Zwane fired past the keeper, Sirino again the provider.
Then almost straight from the kick-off Maboe caught the opposition on the ball before going on a fantastic run, rounding it off with an accurate finish into the bottom corner as Downs too a big first half lead.
Mosimane then looked to tinker with his tactics as Downs switched heir approach, looking to control the game with out the ball by sitting off their opposition and keeping a disciplined shape.
The home side, however, still remained a threat going forward with both Sirino and Maboe going close.
Lobi looked to find a way back into the game nut Sikiru’s wayward volley in the 76th minute was as close as the came.
Sundowns move top of Group A, three points against their next opponents Wydad Casablanca.
