Ajax Cape Town played hosts to SuperSport United at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday as the visitors earned all three points with a victory.
The Urban Warriors got off to the worst possible start as Mosa Lebusa gave away a penalty when he handled the ball in the box. SuperSport’s Jeremy Brockie duly stepped up and struck to give SuperSport the lead.
Brockie had another attempt on goal in the 13th minute when he fired a volley towards goal, only to see the effort fly wide.
The next chance fell to Ajax’s Roscoe Pietersen, who headed the ball wide after 20 minutes of action, before Ronwen Williams was called into a couple of excellent saves as Ajax pushed for the equaliser.
The last chance of the half fell to SuperSport’s Reneilwe Letsholonyane but he could not control his header, as SuperSport retained their 1-0 advantage at the break.
The first chance of the second half fell the way of Matsatsantsa as Brockie again missed the target before Tashreeq Morris squandered a golden opportunity to draw his side level.
Yet another Brockie volley struck the post just short of the hour mark before Bradley Grobler failed to make the most of a header.
With time running out, it was SuperSport looking the more likely to score as Grobler was again denied, this time off a good block. Thuso Phala then came close for the side before Letsholonyane finally made the game safe as he rounded the goalkeeper to slot home.
At full time it was SuperSport who claimed the points as they sealed a 2-0 victory.
