Mamelodi Sundowns star Percy Tau has admitted that he was unsurprised by El Hadji Diouf’s comments comparing him to Liverpool stars Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
Tau, who has been the standout performer in the season’s Absa Premiership, responded to comments from the former Liverpool and Senegal striker who heaped praise on the Bafana star’s ability while also insisting that he needs to make the move to Europe.
‘I spoke to Diouf in Senegal and he expressed his views on my game and what he feels,’ Tau said.
‘I wasn’t surprised by what he said because he told me way back in Senegal. It only shows the good work that I did with Sundowns and how the coaches are helping us develop as players because we can be compared to European players.’
‘But it is always going to be the thing whenever they mention a certain player, people start looking for comparisons. It gives a player confidence to especially do more.’
‘The future will always prevail itself, I will see with time. I hope one day he will be happy with what he said.’
‘I hope one day he will be proud and can say, “I once said those words to this boy, look at him now”. Even if I don’t get to play overseas, it is not easy to go there. If it was easy a lot of players would have went.’
‘Even if I don’t get it, I will still be grateful I spoke to Diouf and that I was able to get a few comments from him that contribute to my game and how I see myself as a person,’ concluded Tau.
