Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Lebese has labelled Amakhosi’s new 2016-17 away jersey as ‘remarkable’.
Following the launch of the Glamour Boys new home kit last week, Amakhosi will showcase their new outfit at the Carling Black Label Cup against Orlando Pirates on Saturday.
The 27-year-old insists that new jersey reminds him of jersey worn by Amakhosi players during the 2001-02 season.
‘The new away jersey is remarkable,’ Lebese said.
‘It’s iconic and it reminds one of the 2001-02 season.’
Kaizer Chiefs won the Mandela Cup wearing a jersey quite similar to this season’s new away jersey. That was also the jersey worn by former South African president Nelson Mandela, reports the Kaizer Chiefs website.
‘That was the team with, amongst others, Jabu Pule, Stanton Fredericks, Brian Baloyi, Marco Mthembu and Gerald Sibeko,’ he added.
‘The new one is slightly different in the sense that the colours from Gold into Black and Black into Gold flow slowly into each other. It’s beautifully designed. I love it.’
Lebese insists that he enjoys wearing the new kit and went on to praise Nike for making a great away kit for the club.
‘The jersey is also very light, it feels nice tight around the body and it breezes, you don’t sweat in it,’ the midfielder said.
‘It’s a joy to wear it. Nike has done a superb job.’
Lebese was chosen by the supporters to be included in the starting line-up for the Carling Black Label Champion Cup against Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Kick-off has been set for 15:00.
