Baroka coach Kgoloko Thobejane has explained his side’s approach to the transfer market ahead of their first ever top flight season. 

Aside from the signing of Geofrey Massa, the newly-promoted club has exclusively looked to sign players from outside of the Premiership. Instead, players from the National First Division and ABC Motsepe League form the vast bulk of the players targeted

‘Our philosophy, we don’t believe in these people who have been playing and have all this experience,’ Thobejane told  KickOff.

‘Our philosophy is [getting] a player who has played some football and is ready and can play at any level at any given time,’ the coach explained.

The signing of Ugandan striker Massa came as a surprise to many onlookers given the pattern of the club’s transfer dealings, but Thobejane has explained he is not concerned about where his players are coming from.

‘That is why, as you can see, we have only one player, Geofrey Massa from Bloemfontein Celtic [to have signed from a top flight side]. That is the way we do things.

‘If we see someone and decide that they are perfect, then young or old we will give him a chance because football is about giving chances – you don’t restrict the player,’ the coach concluded.

Baroka will get their 2016-17 season underway when they welcome Ajax Cape Town to the Peter Mokaba Stadium on August 23.
