Orlando Pirates legend Andries Sebola has expressed dissatisfaction with the current formation being deployed by his former side.
Since experienced Turkish boss Muhsin Ertugral took the reins at the club ahead of the new season the Buccaneers have typically lined up with two holding midfielders, a tactic Sebola believes is undermining the side’s capacity to dominate matches.
According to Sebola, the side would be better off reverting to just the one defensive midfielder to better supplement the side’s attacking players.
‘I think it will be good if they use only one holding midfielder because when you are using two holding midfielders it puts the team to be more defensive because there are four defenders already at the back which now limits the attack,’ Sebola told Goal.
‘With one holding midfielder, if you allow Oupa [Manyisa] to join Mpho Makola together with Thabo Rakhale or [Luvuyo] Memela to supply [Tendai] Ndoro with the balls it will be good,’ the former striker added.
Pirates are as of yet unbeaten in the league this season but have looked blunted in recent games having racked up three draws in succession. Furthermore, only a last-ditch goal from Ndoro saved the side from their first defeat in their last fixture.
‘They have tried it once or twice already this season and they looked much better. So playing Manyisa as an extra man in attack will help,’ Sebola concluded.
Pirates are next in action when they take on Golden Arrows at home in the Telkom Knockout on Sunday.
Kick-off is at at the Orlando Stadium is at 15:00.
