Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler says his side showed real character and determination to go on to claim their maiden Telkom Knockout Cup title on Saturday.
The Cape Town-based side went on to secure a 2-1 victory over SuperSport United and won their first trophy after just a few months of the clubs existence.
The 46-year-old coach admits that he was proud of what his side achieved in the competition and he believes they showed character and determination to win their first piece of silverware.
‘Third time lucky [for me]. I’m very, very proud of the boys – the character that they have shown over the past four months, the work ethic that they’ve had, the determination that they’ve shown,’ Tinkler said after the match.
‘I’m extremely proud of what we’ve achieved in such a short space of time and truth be told they [my players] deserve it.
‘Right from day one when we beat Polokwane [on the opening day of the season] since then I saw something special and four months later you lift your first trophy. It’s phenomenal.’
Cape Town City will now welcome Platinum Star to the Cape Town Stadium when the two side’s meet in the Absa Premiership on Tuesday.
Kick-off has been set for 19:30.
