Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane admits in reality his side look like missing out on the Absa Premiership title, but they will fight until the last day of the season because of their ego and ambition.

The Brazilians suffered a 3-2 loss against City on Monday night as they saw their game in hand fade away and now sit six points off league leaders Kaizer Chiefs.

Sundowns have struggled since the restart, picking up two draws and a loss in their three league games.

Speaking to the media after the game against City, Mosimane admitted that his side has been struggling since the resumption of football.

‘We are struggling, but we are a team that struggles with a fight. If we were doing very well we would be winning, but in the league we have drawn two and lost one. We are struggling, it is a fact, and we are not going to hide it, we are up front about it.

‘After we came back Sundowns is not the same, that’s a fact,’ he added.

Mosimane was then directly asked if he thought the league was now gone.

‘Well, the manner in which we are going [Sundowns’ form], it looks like it [league title] is going because we have played three games and drawn two and lost one so, ja, in that context it looks so.

‘In reality, maybe it looks so, but until the last game, until mathematically it’s proven that we can’t win it we won’t accept it, but in this point in time we have a lot of ego and ambition, we are a very ambitious team and will go for all three trophies [Nedbank Cup, Telkom Knockout and league title] and we still believe the two are still available, although this one looks like it’s slipping from our hands.

‘But that’s the football for us, I think that’s the story of Mamelodi Sundowns inside Covid. I think it’s reality we should try and fight and we will keep going. We’re too ambitious, we can’t just leave it and say it is done, we will go for it and if we don’t win it the table will say we don’t win it and we will have to accept it.

‘We always come back if we don’t win it, but we will give our best, we have too much pride and ego not to fight. We will fight, even if it’s the last game of the season and the league has already gone we will play with pride.’
