After three games without a goal, Orlando Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer is hoping that star forward Gabadinho Mhango will rediscover his scoring touch when they face Mamelodi Sundowns next week.
The Malawi forward has been one of the league’s in-form men since Zinnbauer’s arrival in December as he began to hit the back of the net with regularity – pushing him to the top of the league scorers’ charts with 14 goals.
The forward, though, is yet to score since the 2-1 win over Chippa United at the beginning of February when he bagged a double.
The forward then missed a couple of glorious chances against Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto derby before firing another blank in last weekend’s goalless draw with Golden Arrows.
With Pirates facing Sundowns on 17 March at Loftus Versfeld in a match which could impact the side’s final log position, Zinnbauer is hoping that his star man will again fire against the Brazilians.
‘For me that’s not important [for Mhango to finish the season as top-scorer]. I’m happy when Gabba scores and when he makes goals, but for me the most important [factor] is the focus on the team,’ said Zinnbauer as per Times Live.
‘There are a lot of games left where he can score. I hope he will score in our next game against Sundowns, but we have other players who can score too.’
Mhango was on the scoresheet when Pirates edged Sundowns 1-0 in the reverse fixture in January and will be eyeing a repeat performance next week.
