Motorcycle fans and petrol heads in the Mother City are in for a treat this weekend, when the season-opening 2022 SunBet ZX10R Masters Cup returns to Killarney on Saturday 5 March.

The high-octane SunBet ZX10R Masters Cup is a racing series featuring standard Kawasaki ZX10R Superbikes with controlled Bridgestone tyres ridden by highly competitive motorbike veterans with a taste for extreme speed on two wheels.   

Graeme van Breda will be looking to defend his 2021 crown this season, and the reigning champion will have his hands full if he is to retain his title from the likes of David Enticott and Gareth Bezuidenhout in the coming eight rounds of SunBet ZX10R Masters Cup action.

The SunBet ZX10R Masters Cup was first established in 2007 and has fast grown into one of the largest and most successful motorcycle circuit racing categories in South Africa.

It forms part of the Extreme Festival, which is classed as an Interprovincial Challenge with racers competing from provinces throughout South Africa. Anyone who is 30 years of age or older is welcome to join the club. The racers are divided into three age categories:

• Masters, 30 to 42 years of age on 1 January

• Veterans, 43 to 50 years of age on 1 January

• Xtreme veterans, 51 years of age on up before 1 January

The categories allow the racers to compete against other racers of the same age as well as for a combined championship. There are eight races held throughout the year at six different racetracks:

• East London International Racetrack

• Killarney Racetrack, Cape Town

• Aldo Scribante Racetrack, Port Elizabeth

• Zwartkops Raceway, Pretoria

• Kyalami, Johannesburg

• Red Star Raceway, Delmas

Pre-book your spectator tickets via Computicket or pay at the gate – R100 for adults, R40 for scholars under 16 and free for children under 12; Western Province Motor Club members also get in free on production of their membership book at the gate.

Included in the ticket is a free blues/rock concert after the final race of the day. The SA Blues Society ‘Future Flow’ Tour, with high adrenalin rockers Die Horries joining headliners Levinia on stage at the Clubhouse for an unforgettable evening of live music.

There’s family fun with children’s play areas that includes the famous Kiddies’ Korner and you can bring your beach umbrella or gazebo, a picnic basket, a cooler box, and light up your skottelbraai or park next to one of our brick braais. The pubs are open and there are outlets around the Killarney track, serving food and ice-cold beverages.
