Orlando Pirates traveled to the Peter Mokaba Stadium to take on Polokwane City on Sunday as a last gasp equaliser earned the side a point.
The match got off to a slow start as neither side was able to build any early rhythm, with numerous fouls interrupting the tempo of the game. Perhaps the best early chance was conjured up by Tendai Ndoro of Pirates but his incisive ball was left alone by Mpho Makola, who may well have been offside.
Rodney Ramagalela had the first clear opportunity of the game for Rise and Shine just short of the half-hour mark but Brighton Mhlongo did well to cut out the danger.
The Buccaneers created a good chance on the 38 minute mark as Thabiso Kutumela was played in by Makola, only for his shot to catch the outside of the post. The chance proved the last opportunity of any significance in the half as the sides went in at the interval level-pegging at 0-0.
The second half resumed with an early chance for Polokwane as Puleng Tlolane fired straight at the goalkeeper. Tlolane did not have to wait long for a second opportunity, however, as he fired home spectacularly in the 53rd minute after being afforded too much space.
Tlolane continued to cause problems for the Bucs defense as he forced Mhlongo into a diving save following yet another shot, the ball again striking the post. Another save just a minute later forced a corner as Rise and Shine looked to extend their advantage.
Pirates had a chance to counter just after the 70 minute mark but the move fell apart as no attacker was able to capitalise upon Amigo Memela’s cut back.
With time running out, Thobani Mncwango broke clear but had his shot blocked before Sipho Jembula hit wide with just five minutes remaining.
With barely seconds remaining on the clock, Ndoro grabb ed the crucial equaliser for Pirates, heading home to tie the score at 1-1.
It proved the last meaningful action of the game as the sides shared the spoils.
