Egypt needed penalties to overcome Burkina Faso to advance to a record-equalling ninth Africa Cup of Nations final in Gabon.
Former Chelsea playmaker Mohamed Salah opened the scoring for the Egyptians in the 66th minute before Aristide Bance levelled matters just seven minutes later.
Bertrand Traore failed to beat evergreen goalkeeper Essam El Hadary as The Pharoahs won the shootout 4-3.
The shootout started off brightly for Burkina Faso as Herve Koffi, who at 20 is 24 years El Hadary’s junior, saved Abdallah El Said’s spot-kick. Koffi went from hero to zero as he fluffed his spot kick which allowed Egypt into the final.
They await the winners of Cameroon and Ghana who face off on Thursday night as look to claim their eighth title.
