Kaizer Chiefs left back Sibusiso Khumalo insists he has to seize his opportunity when he was handed a start by the club’s coach Steve Komphela.

Khumalo, who arrived at the club from SuperSport United in the transfer window, has now featured in three successive games for the Amakhosi as he lined up against the likes of Highlands Park, Maritzburg United and Free State Stars.

In the process, the star has dislodged the likes of veteran star Tsepo Masilela from the starting lineup, a player from whom he insists he still has much to learn.

‘The coach gave me the opportunity and I grabbed it with both hands. So far so good and I will like to keep it this way,’ Khumalo told KickOff.

‘As I said it before, I didn’t come to Chiefs to take Tsepo Masilela’s place, I came here to learn from him. But now I’m happy because I’m getting some game-time.’

Khumalo explained that the Amakhosi have steadily begun to hand minutes to their newer additions in the past few matches following a period of adjustment to the side’s style of play. Together with the new signings, we are fitting in nicely. As you can see that in the last three games, they introduced me, Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Michelle Katsvairo and I think we are gelling well as a team.”

‘It’s difficult to play for a team like Chiefs and the fact that we didn’t start the season well makes a lot of pressure for us,’ he concluded.

Chiefs currently sit top of the Premiership standings having rebounded from a difficult start to the season.
