Andries Coetzee sustained a hamstring strain during the warm-up at Monday’s Springbok training session.

He will be further managed by his franchise’s medical team, according to a SA Rugby press release.

The Lions have a bye this weekend, and face the Stormers in their next match at Newlands on 15 April.

Meanwhile, Bok coach Allister Coetzee said he was delighted with the continued improvement of the extended training squad, after they wrapped up proceedings on Tuesday in Stellenbosch.

The training squad of 41 players concentrated their efforts mainly on defence, exits and scrums. During the first camp in Johannesburg the training emphasis was mainly on attack.

The Bok coach said he was pleased with the conditioning of players and attributed it in part to the continued collaboration between the local franchises and the Bok coaching and conditioning staff.

Coetzee reiterated that the door is still open to players who weren’t selected for the first two camps.

‘There are many players who weren’t invited to the first camp, but who attended the Stellenbosch camp after playing consistently well to force their way into the extended group, and there will be others who will be invited to the third camp who are not here now,’ he explained.

The next Bok camp is pencilled in for 20-22 May, which will be followed by the announcement of the Bok squad for the series against France towards the end of May.
