WP No 8 Juarno Augustus

Reports linking WP eighthman Juarno Augustus with a move to the Northampton Saints continue to build, but it may not be all that cut and dry. CRAIG LEWIS reports.

Various reports – both locally and abroad – have suggested that Augustus may be heading off to England in just a matter of time.

On Wednesday, the Rugby Paper went so far as to state that the 23-year-old had signed for a ‘six-figure salary at Saints’ after agreeing to an initial two-year deal with the option for a third year.

Interestingly, though, SARugbymag.co.za understands that there was no request for permission to engage in such negotiations, while it’s also believed that he has no get-out clause.

Reports out of England did suggest Augustus’ arrival would be ahead of the next northern-hemisphere season, and it seems unlikely that WP would stand in his way should he wish to leave once his contract expires at the end of October.

In terms of other player movements, there is some good news for WP, with an announcement expected soon to confirm the signing of Springbok and former Lions lock Marvin Orie.
