The Blitzboks were crowned Dubai Sevens champions after beating the USA 42-7 in the Cup final on Saturday.

Having cruised through to the final over a weekend where series title contenders Fiji, Australia, Argentina and Great Britain all fell by the wayside, the Blitzboks took full advantage as they overcame a motivated USA side to return to the top of the podium.

With the win, the Blitzboks clinched a third consecutive Cup gold medal and also a record eighth title in Dubai.

South Africa were too good for the USA, making it a one-sided contest.

As one commentator accurately noted: the Blitzboks hit the USA with “just too much, too fast, too often”.

The Blitzboks had lost Muller du Plessis to injury before the final, but not even that setback could disrupt the South Africans, who looked more composed and focused in this match than in the previous games.

A brace of tries by Ronald Brown and one by JC Pretorius gave South Africa a handy 21-0 lead.

The masterclass continue in the second half with Brown completing his hat-trick immediately after the restart. Selvyn Davids and Shaun Williams then got in on the try-scoring act before the USA finally crossed for a late consolation effort.
