Springbok hooker Schalk Brits looks set to join the Bulls due to the financial difficulties at the Stormers.
The unattached Brits was originally thought to have his heart set on a move back to the Stormers, who he played for between 2006 and 2009. However, the former Saracens hooker has reportedly made an about-turn as the Western Province Rugby Football Union’s financial trouble has opened up a gap for the Bulls.
‘We’re at an advanced stage in our negotiations,’ Bulls high performance manager Xander Janse van Rensburg told Netwerk24. ‘We’ve been negotiating with him for some time now. We’ve always believed we’ll be successful and convinced that he’ll play Super Rugby for us next year.’
Should the move to Pretoria transpire, Brits would compete with Jaco Visagie, Johan Grobbelaar and Edgar Marutlulle for the Bulls No 2 jersey.
