The makeup of the two seven-team conferences in the expanded Pro14 will be based on the standings of the final log last season.
That would see Munster, the Scarlets, Ulster, the Cardiff Blues, Edinburgh, Zebre and either the Cheetahs or Kings in Conference A, with Leinster, the Ospreys, Glasgow, Connacht, Treviso, the Dragons and either the Cheetahs or the Kings in Conference B.
Teams will play against those in the same conference home and away, and teams in the other conference once.
According to WalesOnline.co.uk, each conference cannot have more than two teams from the same country, which means the four teams from each of Ireland and Wales would be split, with two in each conference.
This would see the number of Irish and Welsh derbies reduced from 12 each to eight.
