Blue Bulls coach Pote Human says it would be an ‘honour’ to coach their Super Rugby side after guiding a young Currie Cup team to the semi-finals. DYLAN JACK reports.

The experienced Human stepped in as Currie Cup head coach after then director of rugby and Super Rugby coach John Mitchell decided to use the time to work on the Bulls youth structures.

However, since Mitchell left the union to become England’s defence coach, the Bulls’ Super Rugby role has remained vacant.

Following their narrow semi-final defeat to Western Province, Human, who has had stints with Tuks and the Bulls U21 team, said he would be happy to take over from Mitchell.

‘It will be a real honour to coach the Bulls’ Super Rugby side,’ Human said. ‘But that is not for me to decide.

‘It is a great bunch of players and we love each other. They played for me and I worked for them. I treated them like my own kids so it would be an awesome experience and privilege to coach the Super Rugby side.’

However, the 58-year-old refused to let on as to whether he had already thrown his hat into the ring.

‘I don’t know,’ Human answered. ‘There are so many rumours. So it is difficult.’
