The results of Chiliboy Ralepelle’s B-sample test are expected to be known on Tuesday. CRAIG LEWIS reports.

The 32-year-old allegedly tested positive for a prohibited substance in January when the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport executed random drug tests at Kings Park. His A-sample urine tested positive, and he has since exercised the right to have his B-sample tested.

After the news break, Ralepelle has publicly stated on more than one occasion that he did not knowingly consume any product to the ‘detriment of his career’, while suggesting he had tested positive for Zeranol, which is a legal growth promotant for livestock, and not a steroid.

Saids chief executive officer, Khalid Galant, confirmed to SARugbymag.co.za that Ralepelle’s B-sample had gone for testing last Thursday.

‘The B-sample opening, witnessing and analysis [has taken place], and the results should be in by Tuesday,’ he said.

Galant also explained that an athlete can personally witness the opening of the sample, or appoint someone to witness it their behalf. He added that in most cases, athletes exercise the latter option.

A few weeks ago, Ralepelle appeared on eNCA to discuss the adverse test, and said that he had acquired legal help to investigate and fight against the findings.

‘The Zeranol [test] is another false allegation against me, which I deny, I did not take any of these substances. At the end of the day, I’m a professional athlete, and it threatens my career and my future as an athlete, so it’s important that I get this cleared to prove that I am not the one who has gone and taken all these things to make myself a better person.’

Although this is the third time Ralepelle has tested positive for a banned substance, which included serving a two-year ban, he has stated that all the allegations are ‘false’.
