Stormers head coach John Dobson refused to blame the pitch conditions for their 24-17 defeat to Glasgow Warriors in a thrilling Vodacom United Rugby Championship clash at Scotstoun Stadium on Sunday.

The Stormers will be hoping to bounce back as they shift their focus to the Heineken Champions Cup and the return fixture against London Irish in Brentford on Sunday afternoon.

Dobson admits that his team’s inability to exit was the most disappointing aspect of their performance against Glasgow following a late try by Sebastian Cancelliere to break their hearts.

“It’s not condition dependent, we failed to exit but stuck to the way we wanted to play on attack,” Dobson told the Stormers’ official website.

“If we want to compete properly in this competition we have to win these games.

“We have to close out these games, every time we come here we take losing bonus points but we are not good at closing them out in these conditions, which is something we have to learn.”

Dobson added: “We had plenty of opportunities to attack just outside the 22 and we couldn’t use them, so that wasn’t good enough.

“They knew we were going to come with our linespeed and they got around us.

“It was just a really bad day at the office against a team that’s really on a roll.”
