Duane Vermeulen could be set for a stint in Japan following his departure from French club Toulon at the end of the season.
Toulon president Mourad Boudjellal confirmed Vermeulen’s departure earlier this week, while suggesting he would be returning to South Africa.
The natural assumption was that Vermeulen would rejoin the Stormers, but according to Netwerk24, nothing has been confirmed at this point.
Vermeulen would miss most of the 2018 Super Rugby season, and so he may opt to head to Japan after his Toulon contract ends, before then making a move back to South Africa. He has reportedly been linked to Japan club Kubota Spears.
