Springbok and Lions wing Aphiwe Dyantyi has decided to contest his doping charge after testing positive for three banned substances in August.

Dyantyi was informed in August that a banned substance was detected in a sample that he had provided after a Springbok training session on 2 July. He was provisionally suspended but, as is his right, opted to have his B sample tested.

At the same time, Dyantyi released a statement denying that he had ever, intentionally or unintentionally, taken a prohibited substance to enhance his on-field performance.

However, Saids confirmed on 30 August that the results of the B sample, tested at a Wada-accredited laboratory, were also positive and confirmed the A-sample results of the presence of three banned substances: metandienone, methyltestosterone and LGD-4033.

Dyantyi was faced with three options: to accept the charge and sanction, to submit a plea for a reduced sanction or to contest the charge in front of an independent tribunal.

According to Sport24, Saids chief executive Khalid Galant has confirmed that Dyantyi has opted for the latter option and is busy preparing his defence. A date for the hearing is still to be set.
